Like any collective we are only as good as our weakest link. Therefore our job as communities is to ensure that we strengthen that weakness to improve overall prosperity and advancement. We should aim for a society where whanau, families are free from economic stress.... where they have enough money to live and provide the basic necessities of life. Economic security is one of the whanau ora goals. Achieving economic security will require NZ to have some big conversations internally. When I went on a study tour through Europe for my MBA we went to Lego, Ecco Shoes, Ikea, Husqvarna, SKM, CitizenM Hotels and lots of other places. New Zealand didnt even feature on some of their maps - 1 because we have a relatively small population and 2 because we are so far away from them. NZ companies need to do a lot more things in a joined up way. We visited food valley in Wageningen where the Business, Research Institutions and the Government work together to lead food innovation and development. We kind of do this in New Zealand but for our size its too fragmented. We need to be more co-operative in our efforts and bring all of our skills together so that we can make more of an impact globally and improve economic opportunities.
