Like it or not. Being a Doctor is not a holy profession. Doctor is a service provider who charges you for the consultation, procedure, counsel or medication provided. Doctor is just like a plumber or an electrician or a carpenter but What he tinkers with is your body and life. Medicine is an inexact evolving science Which deals with complex mysteries of human body. A medication or a suggestion or a surgery does not have a 100% guaranteed outcome. But medical research and scientific endeavours are intended to improve the outcome. Doctors do not jump on earth from a holy heaven. They come from the same beautiful and rotten society everyone is born in. There a lot of good ones and A few bad ones too. Medical Care is not Social Service. Like Education,Like All sectors of Society, It has become and will be a commercial venture in a capitalist society. It is Commercial Capital that drives health care provision and medical research. It is not going to change in near future. What you see and perceive in society as super Rich and living in sprawling bungalows and swanky cars are just a lucky and smart few. Majority of Doctors in India are underpaid, overworked, exhausted and still running. Being a Doctor although not holy is an unique experience- In fact, Despite the enormous pressures and stress involved in everyday clinical practice- The experience of healing and making a person better and happier is a blissful experience. Yes,Doctors are blessed. Doctors are stressed. The process of becoming a doctor is fraught with unbearable stress of academic and professional competition. Some half baked intellectuals with unscientific bent of mind do make sweeping statements of overgeneralized accusations. Be not bothered, Yet introspect. Every day in clinic or a hospital or a primary health centre is an achievement by itself. There are a lots of things that can go wrong. But things do not as we do care. Millions live well due to Modern Medicine. Mistakes happen. Outcomes could differ. Death and Disability does happen due to negligence or greed. Not everyone, Not everywhere. Now a days, People do not want to die. Death is an unavoidable and undeniable fact of life. Doctors are attacked, abused and viewed with hostility and jealousy. Not every patient does so. There are hundred wonderful patients who are grateful and appreciative for every single hostile patient. There are hundred caring ethical doctors for every single doctor who fleeces money from patients. For Both Doctors and Patients, Trust is everything. Believe. Keep walking... Happy Doctors Day !!!
