Lilly and I were cleaning the kitchen, listening to music and talking about our favorite songs. She said she loved the (Leonard Cohen) song Hallelujah and in particular the version from Shrek. I told her she needed to hear the Jeff Buckley version and I proceeded to dig it out of our cd stash. I put the song on loud) and we listened — without speaking — while cleaning. If youve never heard this version of Hallelujah, check it out. It is truly beautiful. Once the song ended and the next song on the album came on I started telling Lilly about Jeff Buckley. I talked about his music, about how I used to see him around the East Village back in the 90s, and how he and his dad Tim Buckley both died young. She asked how Jeff Buckley died and I was telling her the story — how he went swimming in a river during a break from recording, fully clothed and wearing boots, and drowned accidentally. We werent paying attention to the song playing in the background as I told the story of his drowning, but right when I said the words his boots filled up with water Jeff sings in perfect synchronicity, their shoes filled up with water. The words came out of my mouth and out of the stereo speakers at the EXACT same time. Lilly and I just stared at each other wide-eyed. We agreed that it was a cool coincidence and that it was very spooky. We also agreed that his is the best version of Halleluja and that he was a cool guy. youtube/watch?v=y8AWFf7EAc4
