Limoni Manu OUiha DISTRESS AND HELP: Isaiah 33 speaks about how Judah will be overthrown and how they people will turn to God for deliverance and salvation. 33:1-16 – The “destroyer” (Assyria) and “betrayer” will be destroyed and betrayed (v. 1). Judah seeks God’s grace, strength, and salvation (v. 2). The Lord is exalted in Zion with justice and righteousness (v. 5). He is the “sure foundation” and “rich store of salvation.” The key to this treasure is the “fear of the Lord” (v. 6). The condition before deliverance is pitiful: “brave men cry aloud in the streets” (v. 7). The highways deserted, the treaty is broken, and no one is respected (v. 8). The land is stricken with drought (v. 9). The Lord now rises with His mighty power (vv. 10-13). The sinners in Zion will be terrified (v. 14). But those who walk righteously will be secure (vv. 15, 16). 33:17-24 – The Lord will make Zion a peaceful place. They will see the king in his beauty (v. 17). With a sigh of relief they will wonder why they had worried so much (vv. 18, 19). Zion will become a place of refuge and peace (vv. 20, 21). Secured by God who will be “judge,” “lawgiver,” and “king” (v. 22). The spoils of the enemy (Assyria) will be divided and those living in Zion will be forgiven and free (v. 23). LORD, A GREAT TIME OF DISTRESS IS JUST BEFORE US. THANK YOU FOR REMINDING US THAT YOU WILL COME TO THE RESCUE OF THOSE WHO ARE FAITHFUL IN ZION. MAY WE BE COUNTED AMONG THEM, AMEN.
