Linda Nfua, 29, is being held at the Buea Central Police Station, following the mysterious death of her triplets. Nfua was remanded in custody, Thursday, September 12, after her three children died in suspicious circumstances at the Bomaka neighbourhood in Buea. According to reports, the triplets; Dan Enfua, Ray Embi and Takor, died hours after consuming tea their mother reportedly served them for breakfast. Kennedy Nfuat Nji, a benefactor of the children, recounted that, about 10 am on that fateful Thursday, their mother came to his workshop, wailing that her children were in a critical state after taking breakfast. Nfuat Nji said he immediately rushed to the woman’s house to help her transport the children to hospital. According to him, he immediately ferried two of the three children, Dan Enfua and Ray Embi, who were in more critical conditions than Takor, to Kahwa Sumbele Medical Clinic in Bomaka, where they died minutes after. Nfaut Nji added that he rushed back to the house and also ferried Takor to the General Hospital Annex Buea, considering that his condition also became critical. “But a few minutes after we arrived at the hospital, Takor also died,” Nfaut said. Meanwhile, Dr. Nathan Emeh Agbor, who attended to the two children at the Kahwa Sumbele Medical Clinic, told The Post that the children were already dead before they were brought to the clinic. According to Dr. Agbor, when he tried finding out the cause of the children’s death, their mother told him that they had been sick for some time, though she claimed that she had taken them to the General Hospital, where some medications were prescribed. She explained that she could not afford the medications, since she was raising the children by herself. Dr. Agbor, nonetheless, told The Post that he doubted Nfua’s explanation. According to him, it is not normal for the three children to have died at the same time, even if they had been sick. Dr. Agbor revealed that the abdomens of the children were inflated, with foam oozing out from their mouths. These, the medical practitioners maintained, were clear symptoms of food poisoning. Nfuat Nji corroborated Dr. Agbor’s conclusion, stating that it was the same conclusion the doctor who attended to Takor at the General Hospital Buea drew after examining his body. Meantime, Linda Nfua’s landlady, Mary Ngowo, decried Nfua’s poor treatment of the triplets. According to her, Nfua often locked up her children in her one-room, goes out and at times only comes back the next day. This, Ngowo said, had been very rampant since she moved into her house as a tenant a month ago. Ngowo said she wasn’t surprised at what happened to the children, given the kind of treatment their mother had been giving them. According to her, the mother of the triplets was treating her children as if they were a burden to her. Linda’s Repeated Attempts On The Triplets’ Lives On his part, Kennedy Nfuat said he became a benefactor to the triplets when their mother attempted abandoning the children to one of her boy friends in Muea on several occasions. The attempts to abandon the children became frequent, after Linda was sent out of her boyfriend’s house by his parents for her delinquent behaviour towards the kids. Nfuat said he however felt sorry for the girl and her children and decided to rent a room for her and the children in Bomaka. Nfuat revealed that, Linda maltreated her children because she was angry with their father, a certain Tanga Ebah, who abandoned her and travelled to Equatorial Guinea to seek greener pastures. According to Nfuat, Linda initially swore she would abort her pregnancy, but was dissuaded by her boy friend in Muea, who promised to support her. According to Nfuat, the Muea boyfriend supported Linda till she put to bed. However, Linda’s lifestyle changed when the father of the children started sending her money to cater for the children. She reportedly sent away her boyfriend. By press time, Linda was still in custody, while police pursue investigations on the real cause of the children’s death.
