Lindsey Wilson Seger is a woman that knows how to reach people through spoken word. Yesterday, she once again, impressed me on her speech about birth, VBAC and how we do make a difference. Yesterday, I was feeling kind of bummed out, like my passion for helping women during their pregnancies and birth doesnt really matter, but then she said one thing....the cesarean rate has been holding steady for a few years now. That one statement encouraged me. Maybe the rate can hold steady, and maybe one day when I have grand babies, the rate will be back down and women will be treated with respect in the birthing room. Maybe they will be listened to and treated like this is one of the most important days in their lives. Maybe it wont just be a job to that nurse, that midwife or that OB. Maybe, those care providers will remember that women only give birth a few times in their lives, and they remember how they were treated during that time forever. Women recount their childs birth for years after they have their children, maybe one day, the stories will be different, they will all be, I had an amazing nurse. My midwife was so encouraging. My OB went above and beyond and made sure I understood what was happening. Take a few minutes to listen to Lindsey speak. She will encourage you, she will inspire and she is helping to be the change.
