List the ten books that have stood out in your life. Tag friends and ask them to do the same (Thanks Matt Roystone): 1. Asylum (Patrick McGrath) - a gothic style Victorian horror that explains the emotions of love, loss and death and how each inevitably leads to the other. 2. One Of Your Own (Carol Ann Lee) - A biography of Myra Hindley. My attempt at trying to understand something of the person behind the media monster Myra. It was a well written book, balanced and informative. My opinion wasnt changed by the book, Myras portrayal was not a media invention. 3. Jaqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis (Donald Spoto) - Another biography about an amazing, complicated, intelligent woman - and First Lady too. More than just a clothes horse, this woman was the brains behind JFK. 4. Les Dawsons Secret Notebooks (Tracey Dawson) - Just funny, so so funny. 5. To Kill A Mocking Bird (Harper Lee) - Ive love reading since I was able to put 2 letters together and realise A & T made at - this book made me love books just that little bit more. Thank you Mrs Evans my English Teacher at school for letting me read the part of Atticus out loud during our English lessons. 6. The Bible (God) - Oh come I was a Priest of course this was going to feature! And yes I do know its a collection of books and not just one. There is something in there inspirational for everyone, unfortunately it gets hijacked and misinterpreted so often its become a weapon for some, hopefully a comfort for many many others. 7. Dear Fatty (Dawn French) Bonkers (Jennifer Saunders) Another cheat I know 2 books in 1 but these 2 are inseparable as was I from their autobiographies. Funny and enlightening but most of all honest. 8. The Lonely Life (Bette Davis) - A bit rambling but so what its Bette Davis and some of it written post-stroke and that awful book written by her daughter B.D Hyman. 9. Cyndi Lauper- A Memoir (Cyndi Lauper) - anyone that knows me will know why. 10.The Color Purple (Alice Walker) Cos Sinners got soul too. I would now like to nominate: Jo Wade, Emma Bowman & Jayne Fitzgerald xxx
