Listen to WPFW-89.3 FM radio tomorrow, Tuesday, August 26, at 10 AM to hear two prominent ex-prisoner performers and activists discuss a FREE Kennedy Center show From Prison to the Stage in which they will appear on the weekend. The two-hour Kennedy Center show takes place at 8 PM this Saturday. Its presented as part of the Kennedy Centers popular Page to Stage Festival. The prison show is FREE and open to all. No tickets are required. The WPFW Radio broadcast on Tuesday morning, which can be heard worldwide at WPFWfm.org, is called Crossroads and is hosted by celebrity ex-prisoner Roach Brown. Roach will appear at the Kennedy Center show Saturday to do a portion of his one-man show Laughing and Learning. On his radio show he will interview ex-prisoner guitarist Dennis Sobin, who will also appear in the Kennedy Center show. Dennis is director of the Safe Streets Arts Foundation which is producing the Kennedy Center prison show. Roach and Dennis will discuss not only their performance in the upcoming show but other ex-prisoner offerings there, including the art of Maurice Davis, a multimedia presentation by producer-activist Perry Redd, and a play by playwright-actor John Raley. The heart of From Prison to the Stage at the Kennedy Center on Saturday will be a composite play written by 15 men and women currently incarcerated in prisons across America. Featuring drama, comedy and music, the play will be performed by professional actors Raoul Anderson, Lorena Berger, La Tasha Dozia-Earley, Miriam Ferguson, Ed Higgins, Lauren Jackson, Jesse Milliner, Briana Ortiz, and John Raley, under the able direction of Betty May.
