Listening To God | Day 17 Roger Staubach, who led the Dallas - TopicsExpress

Listening To God | Day 17 Roger Staubach, who led the Dallas Cowboys to the World Championship in 1971, admitted that his position as a quarterback who didnt call his own signals was a source of trial for him. Coach Landry sent in every play. He told Roger when to pass, when to run and only in emergency situations could he change the play (and he had better be right!). Even though Roger considered coach Landry to have a genius mind when it came to football strategy, pride said that he should be able to run his own team. Roger later said, I faced up to the issue of obedience. Once I learned to obey there was harmony, fulfillment, and victory.” Today many of us are waiting on God for the same victory on life’s playing field. In order to experience this we desire to “hear from God.” Some are hoping for an audible voice, some are looking for a sign, while others are expecting a feeling. I commend those that seek the Lord and His leading. I also encourage all of my faithful brothers and sisters in Christ not to think for a second that God has forgotten them when things dont exactly break their way. It might seem like Heaven is silent when you pray, but take heart, Heaven has never been louder! The primary way that God desires to communicate to you is through His Word. It is there that you can clearly hear the comfort of His voice. It’s there that you receive confidence in aligning the many signs He has been giving you. It’s only there, that your emotions can legitimately be touched in a supernatural way for His leading and guidance. It’s there that you can get the plays He’s calling for your life. Like our friend Roger Staubach, we just have listen to God’s play calls and leave the results to Him. This is what the Psalmist is conveying in today’s daily reading. Listening to God means that you are Obeying God at His Word. Obedience to God is your most important step of faith after placing your trust in Jesus Christ. The Bible reminds each of us that God actually prefers obedience over any other form of worship. You are never more closer to God than when you are walking in obedience to His Word. Therefore, the Scriptures are your ultimately source for hearing from God. Even your prayers will greatly increase in their effectiveness and specificity as you go to God’s Word. As you seek to be led of the Spirit, look no further than God’s Word. Without a doubt, there are great spiritual blessings awaiting those that listen to God’s Holy Counsel. Walk in the comfort of these truths: You are my portion, O Lord; I have said that I would keep Your words. 58 I entreated Your favor with my whole heart; Be merciful to me according to Your word. 59 I thought about my ways, And turned my feet to Your testimonies. 60 I made haste, and did not delay To keep Your commandments. 61 The cords of the wicked have bound me, But I have not forgotten Your law. 62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You, Because of Your righteous judgments. 63 I am a companion of all who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts. 64 The earth, O Lord, is full of Your mercy; Teach me Your statutes. “ - Psalm 119: 57-64
