Listening and Talking Lisa Kirk said, “A gossip is one who talks to you about others…a bore is one who talks to you about himself…and a brilliant conversationalist is one who talks to you about yourself.” We want to impress other people with our thoughts, knowledge, and expertise. We are so eager to ‘solve’ other people’s problems and to hear ourselves talk, that we spend far too little time listening. Successful people tend to be good listeners. They know they will rarely make a mistake when they talk less and listen more. As with all people skills, you can learn to be a good listener and to inspire others to speak freely.
