Listening to Dick Cheney on Fox news….. He acknowledged the NSA snooping program started under Bush and felt justified because of the 9/11 attacks, which I strongly disagree. However, I can understand immediately after 9/11 the mood in the country and a knee jerk reaction to do everything that could possibly be done to prevent another attack. WRONG, but understandable. Today Obama has stated the War on Terror is over. Therefore there is no longer any justification for such a program. Cheney spoke of needing this information in case a known terrorist was calling someone in the US. Let me suggest that if we know there is a known terrorist……KILL HIM. Yes, it is morally and likely legally challenging. However, when I look at the options between breaking the moral and legal obligation with the American people and the same with other countries and terrorists, that is a pretty quick and easy decision for me. We seem far too concerned with violating the rights of terrorists and way too quick to ignore the rights of The People. Take these resources used to spy on us and use them to kill the people that want to kill us. Every terrorist in the world should know America is looking for them and will kill them wherever we find them. That is a language they can understand. Countries that harbor them should know a border is not a barrier to us killing those that would kill us. That is a covert operation which I can support. It was not asked if all phone providers are being watched or just Verizon. I believe it is safe to assume it is not just Verizon by the tone of his message though. I was bothered when he stated “business records” are not considered private. That sets a precedent which certainly expands the reach of government far beyond what I feel should be appropriate or Constitutional. They went on to talk about Obama’s explanation of how it is being used and not being abused. Cheney was absolute correct when stating Obama has lost all credibility. Obama has SHOWN he is happy to abuse whatever power and information he has at his disposal; Benghazi, IRS, Fast and Furious, Sebelius and Obamacare to name a few. Obama and his minions have zero credibility when it comes to telling the truth or not abusing information or power. Cheney also all but called Obama a liar about Benghazi and the militaries ability to respond in that situation. It was clear they made sure the military, at least under Bush, trained specifically to respond to such situations.
