Listening to the testimony of OPs psychiatrist and social worker, one would then argue that virtually no one from the townships should be convicted of criminal offences. The amount of trauma and anxiety disorders that should be the consequence of being born and growing up in the townships is certainly immeasurable... People have been convicted for murder after fighting for igwinya (fatkoek), piece of meat, slice of bread, R1, stealing chicken, chicken levers etc (all true story examples) - surely these are all poverty related trauma murders brought about by the conditions they found themselves in...
