Liturgical Day: Sunday January 4 Gospel (Jn 1,1-18): In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. She was in the beginning with God. All were made through him, and without him was not anything made there. In him was life, and the life was the light of men, and the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. This one came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. The Word was the true light that enlightens every man that cometh into the world. In the world was, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not. Came to his own, and His own did not receive it. But to all who received him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believed in his name; which was not born of blood, nor of the will of man, but born of God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of the Fathers only Son, full of grace and truth. John testified to him and exclaims, This was he of whom I said: He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me. And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. God no one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him.
