Liverpool Football Club can confirm that the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield Stadium will be placed into safe storage this week as construction work gets underway on the expansion of the Main Stand. The club hosted a short service for the families on Tuesday afternoon at Anfield to mark its relocation and to unveil a specially commissioned temporary memorial, which is located at the entrance of the Centenary Stand - where families, friends, supporters and visitors can continue to pay their respects. As part of the service, Canon Myles Davies, vice dean of Liverpool Cathedral, transferred the eternal flame from the memorial to the cathedral where it will reside during this temporary period. Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, said: Id like to thank the club for involving us from the beginning of the expansion project and taking our views into account for the future of our Hillsborough Memorial. We decided to put it into safe storage during the construction period of the Main Stand expansion and also decided on the design of the temporary memorial so fans can continue to pay their respects. Id also like to thank Canon Myles Davies for attending today and agreeing to look after the eternal flame at the cathedral. J.C
