Liverpool Play Hardball With Suarez The Liverpool Echo- the closest media outlet to Liverpool FC- says that Luis Suarez has been told to report for duty by the club. The Uruguay international’s future at Anfield is in doubt, after he shocked the Reds by flirting ostentatiously with Real Madrid during the Confederations Cup. During a series of shameless interviews with his national media, the 30-goal striker Liverpool have steadfastly supported during a number of embarrassing controversies issued come-and-get-me pleas to Los Blancos. He claimed he has been victimised by the English media, and so despite his affection for the Reds, whose fans have grown to love his feisty, street- fighting brilliance, he wants out. However, Liverpool insists they have received no official bid for Suarez from Real Madrid or any other team. They are set to leave later this month for a pre-season tour to Australia and the Far East, and Suarez is expected to join them. He still has six games left of his ten-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, but will be allowed to play in Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies. He also still has three years left on his contract with Liverpool, and the news emanating from Anfield is that the club intends for him to stay. Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has gone on record to say that every player has his price however, and so it is still possible that Liverpool cold relent and sell Suarez. But it seems the club has learned fromthe last-minute sale of Fernando Torres to Chelsea, as well as last year’s pre-season transfer window, which left them with a shortage of genuine strikers. They have made it clear that if Suarez is to be sold, it will only be for a bid in excess of £45 million, arguing that he is now worth at least double what they paid to sign him from Ajax Amsterdam. They will also only sell the prolific dribblerand nut-meg ace if he personally submits a transfer request. Furthermore, while it is believed Real Madrid are playing chicken with Liverpool in the hope of signing Suarez late in the transfer window for a desperation fee. But Liverpool will not come to that particular party, and will refuse to sell Suarez late on, if it means they have no time to spend the money on an adequate replacement(s).
