Liz Latham (filmmaker) wrote: Since everyone is posting Black History Month items I have one for you. Here in the Northwest lives an older black man named Jim Early Bird. He was the first black dj inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with Dick Clark, Wolf Man Jack and Alan Frees. When the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King was murdered the black communities in almost every major American city rioted. Jim Early Bird was a DJ in Boston at that time and James Brown was due to play a concert in that city that night. With the encouragement of the Mayor of Boston and Bird on the airwaves, they all decided to televise the James Brown concert, which ultimately saved Boston from riots and the city remained relatively calm.
