Local Capacity Builder It is against this background that SNV Netherlands Development Organization seeks the services of a Local Capacity Builders (LCB) who can assist solar companies develop rural marketing channels for their products. Building on its experience in the agriculture sector where it assisted agriculture input suppliers market their products in rural areas through rural based agro-dealer networks, SNV would like to develop sustainable rural markets for solar products. One of the capacity gaps that SNV has identified is the lack of basic knowledge of renewable energy technologies particularly on the part of the agro-dealers. The agro dealers lack basic skills on the renewable energy technologies that are on the market. They cannot differentiate between good and bad products and this is preventing many of the retailers from dealing in the products. The proliferation of poor quality products on the market is destroying consumer confidence in the products. There is therefore a need to identify an LCB preferably one once considerable industry experience and with an appropriate technical background to conduct training workshops for agro-dealers who are participating in the programme on basic solar technologies. 3. Tasks of the Local Capacity Builder • Conduct a gap analysis on the crucial skills requirements of the Agro-dealers selected to participate in the programme. • Propose quality standards for the main components of PicoPV products, PV Panel Systems and Solar Pumping equipment. • Prepare a training manual to be used for conducting the training workshops, which specific attention to PicoPV products, Home Systems and Solar Pumping equipment. • Prepare training aides for use during the training and hand-outs for the trainees. • Conduct trainings in nine districts throughout the country. Each training session to last two days and to be attended by around 20 people per training session on basic solar technologies and quality measurement. • Prepare a report on the outcome of the trainings and propose effective and efficient models for equipping agro-dealers with basic solar product knowledge 4. Expected deliverables • A skills analysis report. • A Training Manual with adequate content and which is suited to the needs of the target group. • Training materials and training aides to be used in the training sessions • A report on the training highlighting the challenges encountered, lessons learnt and recommendations on how the model of information sharing can be improved upon in order to achieve the set objectives.. Competencies • At least 5 years of practical experience in the renewable energy sector preferably as a renewable energy products supplier/entrepreneur. • An Engineering, Renewable Energy or other technical degree coupled with a Business studies related degree. • Fluent in English and any local language. • Computer literate Time allocation The contract will be for a 45 day period.
