Local Police Reports (Bryan County Sheriff’s Office) - Be aware before you respond and lose your money! A man told Deputies he got a phone call at 10pm, and it was a man claiming to be an Officer with the Richmond Hill Police Department. The caller knew the man’s name and confirmed that he was speaking to the right man, and then informed him that he had a warrant for his arrest. He said they had a camera on I-95 and had clocked him at 86mph, and he was now wanted for not appearing in court to face the judge. He then told him he could pay his fine over the phone with a credit card. The man said he told him he’d be on the way to the Police Department right then, and the caller told him he’d be arrested immediately, adding "You have to pay now!” When the man told him "No!” the caller began reading him his Miranda rights over the phone. The man hung the phone up and called 911. Deputies advised him to monitor his bank account and credit report to make sure the caller didn’t have any of his financial information.
