Local government elections are coming up soon in SA! Dignity for Disability encourage you all to vote and have your voice heard. Below is info on the Adelaide City Council info sessions but theyre happening all over the state in your Council area. It would be great to see more people with disabilities and their family carers represented on local councils. There is a stipend paid to Councillors to reimburse you for your expenses. Be one of the City’s 12 key decision makers Being a Council Member is a privileged position and one of the most direct ways for you to influence and make decisions that will affect the City’s future. As community leaders, Council members have a wide range of responsibilities including representing the interests of electors, making decisions about community assets and making judgements about competing pressures and demands on resources of the Council. Candidate Briefing Sessions Come for one of the sessions to learn more about becoming a Councillor. With 12 contested positions within our Council, you have a good chance of making it. Date Time Venue Thursday 21 August 2014 6 p.m. David Spence Room, Adelaide Town Hall, 128 King William Street OR Tuesday 26 August 2014 1 p.m David Spence Room, Adelaide Town Hall, 128 King William Street These sessions will cover information on the electoral processes, responsibilities of candidates, and provide you with the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Nominations open Tuesday 2 September 2014 and close 12 noon Tuesday 16 September 2014.
