Local indie royalty in the form of The Milk Race also perform at The Moon Club on the 24th of November! Swaggering out of the blocks in mid-2011, Cardiff’s The Milk Race set about adding a noisy description to a distinctly non-descript period in music. Taking the pure concept of the timeless power trio, the three moving parts that make up the mainframe of the band have proven form. Singer and guitarist Chris Warlow used to lead the Sonic Youth-meets-Brainiac mayhem of The Martini Henry Rifles, lofty bassist and synth botherer Mike Carter was once of cult fuzz poppers Mo*Ho*Bish*O*Pi, while whirlwind drummer Chris ‘Sklav’ Sklavounos has played in too many bands to mention. The trio are informed by a love of cycling and the power-pop of Cheap Trick, the fury of Fugazi and The Misfits, underscored by a healthy blast of synthy groove that mixes Man or Astroman? with Les Savy Fav’s mischief. Also present is an inherent commercial appeal inspired by the band’s love of skewed pop songs from past decades. Their debut EP Rope Trick, produced by Exit_International’s Fudge Wilson at Sound Space Studios, features the spiky assault of Identify and the glorious Cribs-esque power-chord joy of Bonjour M.F. – inspired by a suitably sweary and near fatal cycling tour of northern France. themilkrace.co.uk/bandcamp
