Local lad made good - The town of Dumfries is the final resting place of Scotland’s most famous poet, Robert Burns. Burns lived the latter part of his life in Dumfries and tragically died there in 1796 at the tender age of 37. Classed as a ‘romantic poet’, he had a big influence on Wordsworth, Coleridge and Shelly.
