Local propane supplier Towne LP Gas has sold its business Wright Township — Towne LP gas announced in a letter to its customers on Saturday, October 4th that it has sold its assets and business to AmeriGas Propane. According to the letter the decision was based on there knowledge of the AmeriGas business philosophy, their commitment to safety and dedication to their employees. Towne LP Gas goes on to thank its customers! AmeriGas in the same letter welcomes Townes customers and states the service will be based out of Coldwater, Michigan. However it should be noted that AmeriGas is currently being sued by the Michigan Attorney General for price gouging back in January and February. The Michigan Attorney general made the announcement on September 22, 2014. The complaint includes the following alleged violations: ■ Price Gouging: The complaint alleges that AmeriGas charged some of its customers grossly excessive prices in two distinct ways. First, it charged residential customers prices that grossly exceeded the prices being charged both by other propane retailers. Second, AmeriGas charged certain customers grossly excessive prices compared to other similarly situated AmeriGas customers. ■ Denial of Pricing Established in Advance Contracts: AmeriGas allegedly denied many customers the benefit of guaranteed per-gallon prices that they had locked in for the winter. ■ Failure to honor prices quoted for telephone orders: The complaint alleges that consumers’ bills did not reflect the prices that they were quoted when they placed an order by telephone.
