#LocalNews : Court sentence mechanic to 2 months in prison for cheating customer ********************************************************************************** ==what do you think ? --------- An Upper Area Court in Kado, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 36-year-old mechanic, Rufus Adeniyi, to two months in prison for cheating his customer of N50,000. Adeniyi, who lives in Tuga Maje area of Zuba, Niger State, was charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating. The presiding judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Adeniyi after he pleaded guilty to the charge. Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N10,000, and ordered that him to pay the sum of N50,000 to the nominal complainant. The judge said that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar acts. He also warned the convict to be of good behaviour and desist from such acts. Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Ikape Egboja of Suite 102, Anbeen Plaza, Utako, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused at the Utako police station on July 14. Ibrahim said that sometime in February, the complainant gave Adeniyi N50,000 as part payment for the repairs of his Toyota Bus. He said that the accused promised to repair the car in two weeks but he did not; rather, he converted the money to his own use. The prosecutor added that all efforts by the complainant to retrieve his vehicle and money did not yield results until the convict was arrested by the police. He said that during police investigation, the accused confessed to committing the crime. He added that the offence contravened the provision of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
