Location: Big Lake=0A Case number: AK14061379=0A Type: Aircraft Crash - Fatal=0A =0A Text: On 8/10/2014 at 0225 hours, Mat Com dispatch received a report of an aircraft crash that had just occurred at the Big Lake Airport. An investig ation showed that Christopher Cyphers, 50 of Anchorage, and a passenger wer e taking off from the Big Lake Airport in a Piper Comanche single engine pl ane when the plane experienced some type of engine problem. Cyphers attemp ted to perform an emergency landing at the Big Lake Airport but struck tree s which caused him to crash land on a roadway near the airport. Cyphers wa s killed in the crash and the passenger suffered life threatening injuries and was transported by Lifemed to an Anchorage area hospital. The NTSB and FAA have been notified and the SME was notified and responded.
