London Mining:Largest Ship Loaded in Freetown Harbour - Thursday 27 March 2014. London Mining announced that, today, the Baby Cape vessel, MV MAGSENGER 8 , left the Freetown harbour carrying 107,746 tonnes of its iron ore concentrate. This represents the largest load ever of Company ore to be shipped from, and the largest vessel ever to be loaded in, Sierra Leone’s natural harbour. “London Mining is proud of this achievement, which caps off a challenging first quarter,” said Dan Desjardins, Managing Director, London Mining Company. “It is a quarter of ‘firsts’,” Desjardins continued. “Our Marampa Mine also recorded daily production of 15,885 tonnes on 19 March 2014, which represents an increase over what was achievable prior to bringing our third plant on line.” London Mining has started using an improved barging solution, which incorporates barge pusher technology to increase capacity and reduce operating costs. The first two pusher barges are being commissioned by London Mining to carry concentrate-fines down the Port-Loko-Freetown marine channel and a programme has been put in place by the Company to allow the loading of larger vessels. In November 2013, the Company shipped 88,014 tonnes of its concentrate via the second largest vessel ever to be loaded in the Freetown Harbour.
