Lone Survivor (2013) Plot: Based on The New York Times bestselling true story of heroism, courage and resilience, Lone Survivor tells the incredible tale of four Navy SEALs on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative who are ambushed by the enemy in the mountains of Afghanistan. Faced with an impossible moral decision, the small band is isolated from help and surrounded by a much larger force of Taliban ready for war. As they confront unthinkable odds together, the four men find reserves of strength and bravery as they stay in the fight to the finish. Mark Wahlberg leads the cast as Marcus Luttrell, the author of the first-person memoir “Lone Survivor,” whose book has become a motivational resource for its lessons on how the power of the human spirit is tested when we are pushed beyond our mental and physical limits. Starring alongside Wahlberg as the other members of the elite team who gave everything for their brothers-in-arms are Taylor Kitsch as Michael Murphy, Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild, television’s Bonnie and Clyde) as Danny Dietz and Ben Foster as Matthew “Axe” Axelson. Eric Bana joins the core team as Erik Kristensen, their commanding officer in Afghanistan. Review: This movie does take some time to get going, but once it does, its full of intense drama which is very believable. The action scenes were put together well and you cant help but feel for the 4 band of brothers who find themselves in an impossible situation. The fact that this film is based on true events, makes it even more intense, but they had to put a Hollywood spin on it by making Wahlberg the hero, as usual. Anyway, the footage of the real soldiers was emotional but there are better movies out there that portray the Americans at war. Watchable! Round-Up: I would have liked the director to concentrate on the individual characters because the film just jumps right into them going into the jungle. Apart from that, the actors done extremely well by making the film feel real and it really does make you think about what the real soldiers have to go through. I personally would have cracked under the pressure, but when you see the footage of the training at the beginning, you can understand that they are prepared for every situation. Anyway, you cant fault the film for intense drama. Budget: $40million Worldwide Gross: $150million I recommend this movie to people who are into there war movies about 4 band of brothers who get caught in an impossible situation. 6/10
