Lonomia caterpillars (Lonomia sp.) found in South America, is one of the most dangerous species of caterpillars in the world. They are famous for being responsible for a few deaths each year, especially in southern Brazil, and the subject of hundreds of published medical studies. The stinging structures, when touched, release toxins that burn right away, like boiling oil, leading to whole body ache and bleedings. The population of the Lonomia oblique species is increasing in cities due to deforestation, which causes the animal to invade areas inhabited by humans. Its venom has been studied around blood clotting e if used correctly, can prevent apoptosis (cell death). i.imgur/2o9tbbb.jpg
