Look at it from MMs point of view. He thought he had the Club sold then all this stuff about Mamma blows up & suddenly the takeover is as good as off. He needs a couple of million so he bigs up how things are moving forward to get ST sales in then on the eve of the season, he sells our most saleable asset. He knows there will be a fan backlash so he signs an aging defender on a three month contract and arranges for a couple of positive news items on the OS with titles like More to Come. However, knowing this wont be enough he goes on TV & says we are close to signing a young Scottish striker, who is highly rated so the Forums dont go into meltdown. He knows that half the fans will now back the sale of Antonio. He knows this buys him time so that if the signing doesnt happen, he can link us with another player to make it look like we are ambitious and hide the fact that SG wont get much of the Antonio money. Or am I just being cynical again?
