Look, this lawsuit does not help the Muslims in this country at all because a lot of major restaurant chains might now not consider carrying halal for fear that they will be accused and/or sued for not selling what they advertise (halal). McDonalds did not have to agree to carry halal in the first place. Yes I know that it was a marketing strategy used to get Muslim business, however Muslims even in Dearborn are a minority and this McDonalds that was sued did not stand to gain a lot financially as not all Muslims in that area would have been regular McDonald’s customers even with the halal menu. It goes without saying that it is wrong to falsely advertise a product as being halal knowing that it is not and if this McDonalds was doing that, then it may have been better for Muslim organizations who deal with this sort of thing, to confront McDonald’s management and ask that they either sell the halal products or request that they pull it entirely from the menu. They could even advise the community not to buy from them if this became a frequent issue. I don’t think involving the courts and suing for money was the best way to handle this.
