Look, weird movies are great. In fact, weird movies are important. Any film that carves its own path is vital not only to the movie-making landscape as a whole, but to creativity in general. Films should inspire, films should be progressive; they should constantly be moving forwards, toward something new and different. Im not even talking high art, here. Hot Tub Time Machine is a fine example. There is a vast difference between the type of movie I am referring to, and the all-night coke binge spitball that is (would be) a 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover. Taking a dried-up franchise and a soon-to-be-dried-up-franchise, mashing them together, and wringing out the old, dirty residue is flat out dumb and, of course, greedy. End rant!
