Looking back I think I should be soft on land grabbers. And so - TopicsExpress

Looking back I think I should be soft on land grabbers. And so should Lempaa Soyinka. Around 1997 we were alocated the most prime Tuck Shop in KU, located in Ngong Hostel which was like the Muthaiga area for female students. We were 5 of us. The Tuck shops were always alocated by KUSA through competitive balloting but the 5 of us never took the ballot. The Kusa chairman Maina Kariuki was one of our best friends. We just met in Lempaas room and he asked us to choose the shop we wanted and we did. It was the most profitable and business was overwhelming. On the day we were to open the shop, those occupying it resisted. We simply broke in and evicted them using Kusa power. What happened thereafter is one of the most interesting stories of my life. But to cut it short, after five months of running the most profitable shop on campus we had nothing to show for it. We could not account even for a single coin.
