Looking back at Magnus Carlsens unsuccessful assualt in 2002 on U-12 World Champs and U-14 World Champs in 2003. Might give a clue as to how his grip on the Chess world might eventually be unlocked. Way back at the end of 2003 a decision was made to keep Carlsen away from junior events and target senior events. It seemed from those days Carlsen developed a fear for equally prodigous talent. He performed better in a field of players older than him, or players of any age he had little or no respect for and thrived off being that prodigy to watch in a field of players many years his senior. This can somehow explain why Caruana the youngest of the new chess elite has such a successful record against Magnus. It is like 2002/2003 at the Juniors all over again.
