Looking back now , between 1978 when I started my secondary school in Kwara state and 1987 when I was in part 4 at the university of Ibadan I must have given my life to Christ 30 times until I finally met him at the ivcu basic bible class salvation and assurance of salvation class! The fellowship of Christian student (fcs) preachers kept preaching, sowing the seed each time they showed up but their was no nurturing! It was like just scattering seeds all over the place without prior land cultivation and follow up watering and tending! So as altar calls were made some of us kept going out Sunday by Sunday in response to the call since during the week we have either fallen into the sin of lying or abusing our classmates or seniors or even engaged in all out fighting! So we come back to the fellowship to tell God we are sorry! I cannot recollect whether quiet time was emphasized, so what do u expect, no proper follow up and ofcourse quiet time equal countless giving of life to christ! I have come to discover over the years that proper follow up and discipleship is where the real work of establishment of souls is! That is the work we do not want to do nowadays! Anybody can preach I mean anybody, even the devil preaches but when it comes to follow up job we shrink! In the course of our long vacation2014 camps, God gave us at least 613 souls in Lagos area, the highest in Lagos region for which we should be thankful! Our theme for this year is bearing much fruit Jn 15:8 Imagine if we can dutifully follow up and disciple these fruit, check out the multiplier effect by next years camp, the geometric progression! We have sound follow up booklets in scripture union Nigeria and other nurturing materials, I urge the 37 groups in the Area to pick up these fruits as major follow up project this year instead of the fruitless evangelism, we have their names, addresses and phone numbers, let us not give them rest day and night until Christ is actually formed in them! Commanders of tens, your work have just started kindly be at the fore front in bringing in these sheaves! Looking back now, assuming I was really rooted in christ when I first met him in 1978 by follow up, I would have achieved more for Christ by now instead of my roller coaster in and out experience! Lets pls nurture them it is our area of specialization in scripture union, we taught the churches even Deeper life!
