Looking back over the past 15 or more years, Ive made some good memories in the music industry. One of my fondest memories was getting to be a backstage guest at the Grand Ole Opry many times. During one of those visits myself, Eli Tellor (a young man I managed at the time), and David Null, a friend of mine, were all standing backstage at the Opry in the hall. Mr. Jim Ed Brown, a country legend, came up and politely said Excuse me boys but I need to get in here if ya dont mind and he chuckled. Little did we know we were blocking his dressing room door. We pardoned ourselves and stepped to the sides and he replied Oh thats ok, I just need to get off these legs and rest them and my old feet . We all laughed together. Then he said something so polite to us and I have never forgotten it. Now you boys have a decision to make to which I replied , We do? Well what might that be Mr. Brown and he chided back Well, you can stand here and let your own legs and feet get tired or you can come in here with me and sit and talk for a while We quickly accepted his invitation. He was one of the most gently and kind men Ive ever met. The man is/was a legend in Country Music and he took the time to invite three southern Illinois boys whom hed never met into his domain to talk. He shared memories and thoughts about the industry and some pointers with Eli etc. I have never forgotten his kindness to us that night. That night, Jim Ed Brown stood ten feet tall in my eyes. Here is a video of him singing an old song entitled Little Jimmy Brown Maybe some of you will remember it. - Thank you Mr. Brown! youtu.be/XJCvPhqcY9A
