Looking for application to edit MP3 recordings of our worship - TopicsExpress

Looking for application to edit MP3 recordings of our worship services. For years, I have used Adobe Soundbooth and it was a perfect fit. Basic functionality, easy to use, and not overkill. Unfortunately, SB has been discontinued and its replacement, Audition is a bit pricey ($50/year subscription) for what I need. I need to be able to do simple tasks -- create multiple MP3 files from one large file; adjust volume; fade in/out; simple EQ; etc... I have used Audacity in the past and didnt care for it. Maybe its time to try it again? Is Garage Band capable of simple edits?
