Lord Almighty... I just had a really, really heavy moment. Got in my car to drive to an appointment and sort of mindlessly popped in Donny Hathaways Extension of a Man. The second track on that record is a song called Someday Well All Be Free, one of my favorite songs of all time, easily. It suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks, the uncanny relevance of the lyric given the recent loss of Janice Scroggins, the mother of two beautiful and enormously talented women that Im proud to know, Arietta Ward and Nafisaria Scroggins-thomas. I may have burst into tears uncontrollably for the duration of the song. Sometimes a good cry has healing power. Nafi and Etta, I love ya tons.
