Lottering leaves Walvis Bay laughing Renowned South African stand-up comedian Marc Lottering held two hilarious shows in Walvis Bay Town Hall on Wednesday and Thursday. The comedian arrived in Walvis Bay on Tuesday and paid a surprise visit to the namib times office. Both his shows were well attended and he left the crowds roaring with laughter. Marc used well-known personalities in his one-man shows who the audience can relate to very well. He opened the show with the following quip, “I am happy to see you all here tonight. If you do not find me funny during the show I am about to give tonight, I do not care, because I already have your money.” He said it with a smile and with that he immediately had the audience eating from the palm of his hand. The evenings were great and drew tears of laughter from the audience. He wowed coastal residents with his brand new one-man show called, “This is Captain Lottering speaking.” The newspaper later sought Marc’s opinion of the Walvis Bay community. “I have been in Namibia before, but this was my first time to do a show in Walvis Bay. I think the people are very friendly, warm-hearted and they have welcomed me with open arms. I have had a lot of fun here. I would like to encourage more people to come to comedian shows. We definitely want to see more of you,” he said. All the characters, including Aunty Merle, the housewife Galatia Geduldt, Smiley the taxi dude and Colleen the cashier from hell took turns to entertain the audience in a show billed not suitable for children. This time everyone went to the airport and the audience made sure that their seatbelts were fastened for the trip with Aunty Merle with her very strong opinions on airline food, while Galatia was thrilled to be flying to Johannesburg to work on her album, finally. Aunty Merle is a housewife from Belgravia Road in Athlone. She was one of Marc’s first characters and has become a firm favourite with Marc`s fans. Smiley is a “taxi gaartjie” from Cape Town. Marc, born on 4 December 1967, hails from Cape Town and is one of South Africa’s top comedians. He has been a comedian for more than 13 years and continues to keep audiences hooked and laughing. He became an overnight successful comedian following the debut of his self-titled one man show in 1997. Marc won several prestigious awards along the way. His self-scripted shows continue to play to packed houses. In 2001 he won the Vita Award for Best Actor in a Comedy and he has also multiple `Fleur du Cap` awards. According to TVSA he starred as a fictional version of himself in the SABC3 sitcom Lottering in Jozi, which documents his disastrous relocation from Cape Town to Johannesburg in his quest to become a stand-up comedian last year. Marc caused amusement throughout the entire show and left the audience feeling relaxed, refreshed and jubilant.
