Love...on the material platform. Hmm. You know, the hopeless romantics got it right. They get what love is and how it works...but they dont know that it only applies to Krishna. When we try to love each other in forgetfulness of God, the center from which everyone and everything emanates, we naturally run into some major problems. First of all, we arent capable of receiving all the love anyone has to offer. If a person puts all their time and energy into pleasing you, speaking to you and speaking about you, chances are youll feel smothered and think theyre crazy. It would make you uncomfortable, because you cant handle it. Furthermore, you arent capable of giving that person the love they need. God, on the other hand, is fully capable of giving and receiving love in this way...in the intimate relationships He has with everyone everywhere at once, without end. Each gopi thought that He was only dancing with her, remember? This is what being God means. Now, you and another person may cross paths and find that youre materially compatible. You fall in what you consider to be love. Chemical reactions occur within your bodies and its all so intense...you both feel the rush. Time marches on, and the intensity fades. You still have love for each other, but things arent as exciting as they used to be. Doesnt happen with Krishna...the intensity of your loving relationship with Him increases infinitely. Being with Krishna never gets old. Couples commonly wake up one day asking themselves What happened to the person I fell in love with? but Krishna is the perfect spouse. His name means the all-attractive one…hes full in the six opulences ( namely wealth, strength, fame, beauty, knowledge and renunciation). Actually, Hes the source of these opulences, the pillars of attractiveness. We all possess the six opulences to a limited extent, which ebbs and flows. A woman may fall in love with me because of my knowledge, strength and so on but I can be paralyzed and brain dead at any moment…thats the nature of this world were living in. However, if the same woman loves God for the same reasons, shell always love Him because He is not susceptible to the wiles of maya (material nature). The material manifestation is one of constant change. Its temporary, therefore illusory. Our bodies change, our mentalities, surroundings, the nature of our relationships, our financial situations, pretty much everything…friends and couples grow apart by the nanosecond. But the spirit soul is actually unchangeable. It will always want to be happy and it will always want to serve Krishna with love and devotion because thats the only thing that makes it happy. The greatest contrast between love on the material platform and love of God is the selfishness exhibited in the former and the selflessness exhibited in the latter. Generally, people arent interested in sharing their husbands/wives with others…you have to find your own lol. But not with Krishna. His lover wants to give Him to everyone. The gopis felt bad for Radha when Krishna left her, they didnt think Yay, more Krishna for me! If Radha wasnt happy, they werent happy. Real love is endless and all-inclusive…and theres never a dull moment. I need that in my life! So do you. Hare Krishna!
