Love rutabagas but hate having to cut those hard little things heres a helpful hint...put the whole rutabaga in a pot large enough to cover it with water (I use a stock pot) and bring it to a boil, let it boil 25/30 minutes less/more depending on the size. Let cool enough to handle. You will then be able to peel it with ease and cut it with no problem. Proceed with your regular cooking. If you are able to purchase one at a Farmers market you wont have the wax that are on the ones in the store. Some like to do this in a Microwave instead of boiling water....your choice...I prefer the boiling method.
