For those who dont know Minnesota or the Upper Midwest of the US, there are many, many Scandinavian immigrants who settled here, and the older ones have rather distinctive accents in English. A couple vocabulary items: lefse - a Norwegian flat bread made from potatoes; lutefisk - a fish dish made from dried cod that has been processed with lye (!) and definitely an acquired taste. Uff da! is a Norwegian-American exclamation thats kind of like oh boy!
