Love your Enemies But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also. ~Luke 6:27-29~ This so goes against the grain of human nature, doesn’t it? Isn’t it just a whole lot easier to write our enemies off? Isn’t it just a lot more simple to avoid these people completely and pretend they don’t exist? But Jesus says just the opposite: · LOVE your enemies. · DO GOOD to them which hate you. · BLESS them that curse you, and · PRAY for them which despitefully use you. · TURN your cheek, and · GIVE your shirt if your enemy takes your coat. The Amplified Bible says it this way: 27 But I say to you who are listening now to Me: [in order to heed, make it a practice to] love your enemies, treat well (do good to, act nobly toward) those who detest you and pursue you with hatred, 28 Invoke blessings upon and pray for the happiness of those who curse you, implore God’s blessing (favor) upon those who abuse you [who revile, reproach, disparage, and high-handedly misuse you]. 29 To the one who strikes you on the jaw or cheek, offer the other jawor cheek also; and from him who takes away your outer garment, do not withhold your undergarment as well. If our enemies can’t see God through US, WHO will they see God through?
