Loving the blue skies and 83 degrees. Slept in til 7:30 this morning. First stop was the museum to see Michelangelos David. The detail of this sculpture is unbelievable down to the veins in his feet. I couldnt help wonder what If he had sculpted Goliath as well. Very interesting were the 4 pieces commissioned by a Pope for his own tomb that were never completed by Michelangelo. We walked back thru town to a store where Kendall saw some brass jewelry last night. The store was closed but I you ring the bell he comes down from his loft, smelling of pot. Awkward. Seemed like we bothered him. I had spinach and ricootta cannelloni and the best tomatoes Ive ever eaten. Kendall had crab squid mussels and shrimp salad, also excellent. We went into the beautiful cathedral in the square ~ so exquisite outside, beautiful but sparse on the inside. Next Kendall and I climbed the approximately 350 steps to the top of Duomo, which was nothing compared to the 550 we climbed (almost sideways) to get to the top of the dome at the Vatican. Exquisite view of the cities at both sites. Later today we walked over the bridge to another beautiful section of the city. Did some window shopping and made a few putchases as well. Walked up another few hundred steps to Piazza Michelangelo for yet another incredible view of the city. We stayed there for a while then walked thru the rose garden of Firenze. Very pretty and fragrant. Tonight I had a filet and roasted vegetables. Delicious. First meat Ive eaten in over a week. Not really missing it though. After walking back through the squares and a gelati, we got back to the room early tonight. Great day.
