Loving tonight. Only hubby and me and our fave LPs and us making sushi. When the grandies come to visit I put on the old fashioned black vinyl .Why? The music sounds better than on CD, but its more. Let me explain. It takes several steps to listen to music here, and there is an air of anticipation, which is different to immediate gratification. Grandma hunts thru the LP collection, takes out the cardboard cover and plastic wrapper and blows dust off the stylus, asks a grandkid to find her glasses so she can find the right button to push and then she gently lifts the arm of the record player. Its about ceremony and respect. It is old technology but new for grandkids. 60s kids saved up hard to buy a vinly record, and were careful and this spilled over to savings. Possibly this will annoy some, but my generation has been so innovative it is making our world so different meaning more immediate, more threatening and less safe. I only want to bring back the magic as far as my grandkids are concerned and give them values so they can cope in the years ahead.
