Low Porosity If your hair has a low porosity level, it is usually genetic and not the result of something gone wrong. Low porosity hair resists moisture because the hair’s cuticles are tight and sometimes overlapping, refusing to open to absorb any moisture. Products usually just sit on top of hair with low porosity and can often cause product build up. To avoid product build up, use liquid/water based products and avoid over moisturizing the hair. Just like Hair Typing, knowing your hair porosity can help guide you in the right direction in your search for products and techniques that will work for your hair. So if you are struggling with maintaining moisture in your natural, do the simple float test to determine your hair’s porosity.
