Low on political capital, Martelly can still lead Haiti with - TopicsExpress

Low on political capital, Martelly can still lead Haiti with ideas. Good ideas, not slogans with quasi-NGO, quasi-political campaign types of events like “Ti Manman Cheri”. These are not ideas but demagoguery and nonsense. I am talking about good ideas that improve the lives of everyone, not just those who come out the house wearing pink screaming Viv Martelly but everyone. I speak of real national strategies that will make the peoples government work better, hear them better and therefore, work in their favor. These ideas missing at El Rancho. For example, today in Haiti, there are elected officials who came into office later than when they were supposed to, for example, the third of the senate who took their oaths in 2009 rather than 2008. This one year offset, for whatever reason that caused it, has limped the Haitian political system at a cost to the Haitian people. It has caused a situation for one more unneeded costly election or one more year of public mayhem; usually both. A real political accord would have, at the very least, included agreements to get the Haitian electoral cycle in order by requesting resignations from the many elected officials whose terms are off cycle. For the good of the nation, these officials would resign on the day their cycle would have constitutionally ended. It would have been an honorable sacrifice for our republic, for its people, and its future if President Michel Martelly could have led in this effort for stability by offering up his resignation from office, on February 7, 2016 (rather than May 14, 2016), so that the presidency can come in order. This would have led for an agreement to get resignations from all elected seats, that are offset, at all levels in our country, in order to bring the nation into a proper electoral rhythm. Without such an agreement, at the very least part of the El Rancho accord, everything about it is just perpetuating Haitis problems. And getting the electoral cycle back in order is just one necessary element of the kind of political accord that Haiti needs. I have 6 others listed in this countdown: The Top 7 Necessities for Long Term Political Stability in Haiti.
