Lowest levels of unemployment since 2005 in Wyre Forest - TopicsExpress

Lowest levels of unemployment since 2005 in Wyre Forest Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show that the number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in November was 963 which represents 2.1% of the economically active population. The last time that the claimant count in Wyre Forest dropped below 2.2% was in August 2005. The lowest rate of unemployment, on record in the constituency, was 1.7% in January 2005. With a growth in the population of the constituency, the relative gap between the current figure and the historic low is smaller than ever before. The number of claimants has fallen by 1346 since Mark was elected in 2010, when 2,309 people were seeking work – a drop of 58%. This claimant rate used to represent 4.8% of the economically active population. Mark Garnier said “I’m incredibly pleased to say that employment fell again this month. Nationally the statistics are also encouraging, especially since 95% of new jobs are full time. The statistics for youth unemployment I hope will continue to drop as changes in the schools’ curriculum promote financial education, encouraging entrepreneurship and giving students core skills that will help them with job interviews. However across all areas there needs to be as significant a drop. The Government is doing a good job of helping JSA claimants to gain wider skill sets, and tightening employment legislation to ensure that people have sustainable futures. I look forward to seeing the continued effects of these in the New Year.”
