Lt. Ed Walshs Sister Speaks At Funeral: Lt. Edward Walshs older sister, Kathy Malone, spoke at the funeral service in St. Patricks Parish on Wednesday that brought firefighters, community members, and dignitaries to Watertown. Malone described her brothers role as a family man and a born leader who served his calling as a firefighter. Though Eddie seemed to watch over everyone and enjoy the company of many, Ive never seen him happier than when he spent time with Kristen, Dillon, Morgan, and Griffin, Malone said, naming Walshs wife and three kids. Malone said her 6 foot 4 inch brother could be intimidating, but that that impression didnt last long. Once he shook your hand, as he always did, because he was a gentleman, you knew that he was simply a nice guy, Malone said. It comes as no surprise to our family and friends that many of his fellow firefighters have told us he was a born leader. He led by example in all aspects of his life, she said. Malone spoke of the support Walsh gave their family when their father died and how she observed the joy he had when spending time with his wife and kids. Eddie, just as you have always had my back, Kristens back, and all of your friends and families backs, I make a commitment to try to be half the person you were. Lets model ourselves after Eddie, Malone said. Eddie lived more in 43 years than many of us will do in 80, she said. He was destined to do great things, and he did.
