Lucas Overby for Congress Press Release 04/21/14 After great thought and deliberation, I have made the decision to not run in the November election for Florida’s 13th Congressional District. Running for the United States House of Representatives has been one of the greatest honors in my life, the support I received and the hard work and dedication so many put behind me have been humbling beyond words. However, I made the decision to run for office with my family in mind, I finished the race with them fortifying my heart, and upon completion of the Special Election it was the most important thing for me to take stock of them while making the decision for November. My family, my beautiful wife Ashley and my amazing little daughter Raegan, are the absolute center of my universe, and the timing is simply just not there for us to do it again so soon. This campaign is another step in my journey to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, to be the voice of those who have been drowned out in the maelstrom of our political system. My journey did not start with this campaign and it will most certainly not end with it. I have accepted positions with the Libertarian Party of Florida to help develop our candidates, I will be working with other candidates, building single issues legislative campaigns, and I will be continuing forward with many amazing groups to further the causes of liberty, justice, and equality for all. I will also be dedicating more time to reopening the Martin Luther King Jr Clearwater Community Center and fighting to build our neighborhood towards a stronger future for our children. Again, thank you to everyone who put their faith in me, who dedicated their time and treasure to my campaign, and everyone who stood up against insurmountable odds with me. This is far from my last fight and this is not the last time my name will appear on a ballot. We will march forward and we will continue to work to build a nation, to build a world, which we can be proud to pass to the next generation.
