Lucy, Mila and Sophie said goodbye to their new friends from the Child Guidance Center yesterday as we wrapped up an11 week reading program. Over the past 3 months we have been able to witnesses these children transform into confident readers who have now started checking out books and reading in their spare time. We have known for quite sometime that dogs have an amazing affect on children but it is still wonderfully surprising to hear the of improvements reported back to us. These children, for instance, not only improved in their reading skills but opened up to their counselors more often than before they began this program. Behavior is improving across the board! We hope to see them all at Barks and Books when we resume in September. Thank you Kristi Brown, Susan Palm, Beale Library and Child Guidance Center for making this program possible. - Jackie
