Luke 13:6-9 (6) He also spoke this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. (7) Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, thee three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why [burden the ground with it]? (8) And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: (9) And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. [Editor’s note: I’m going to step out on a limb here and analyze these verses as the following metaphor: Mankind has been given a week to purify themselves in the fire and be born into the family of God. Each of those 7 days to God is like a thousand years to man (a long time). Sometimes, as in this case I feel like the 3 years spoken of here is like 3 thousand years and if we add the additional year requested and granted that is 4 thousand years. Jesus came at the 4 thousand year mark. Like a fig tree that does not produce, Israel continued to reject God and was cut off at the root and dispersed to the Nations. Since then it has been 2 thousand years, or 2 more days. We are about at the end of 6th day of Gods week for flesh. Soon it will be the 7th day, God’s sabbath, when Satan will be locked up and Jesus will be ruling on earth with an Iron rod. This 2 thousand year, (or 2 year, or 2 day depending on the parable) period of time, days 5 & 6 of God’s week for flesh, has been given to the Gentiles as a period of unmerited Grace. The repentant, believing and faithful Gentiles will be grafted into the root (Jesus, see Rev 22:16). Since the Gentiles were given 2 days why not give the Jews 2 days as well? The first being day 4 spoken of above and the second being day 7, which is a Sabbath; but dont we remember the parable that Jesus spoke in Matthew 12:11 What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? As we have watched the nation of Israel brought back into The Land and being built back up, we can see the signs of this period of Grace for the Gentiles ending and God restoring Israel to their rightful position. This soon coming 7th day Jesus will spend with Israel protecting her and fertilizing her and offering her an opportunity to be grafted back into the root from which she came. And we know from reading the bible that Israel does accomplish the bearing of good fruit required of her and that the tree will remain. Romans 11:24 For if you (Gentiles) were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. (26) And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: (27) For this is my covenant unto them when I shall take away their sins. And for those who want to study a similar revelation of this metaphor, look at Luke 8:40-55. See Jairus as God the Father the real ruler of the synagogue who sent Jesus to heal Israel but along the way the people thronged Him (crucifixion), Jesus takes time to heal the woman having an issue of blood (the Gentiles) and all they have to do is touch the hem of His garments with faith. Then He returns to His original mission when everyone thinks Israel is as good as dead, but He raises them from the, for all practical purposes, dead, and serves them a feast. There are many metaphors in this story. Feel free to share them as you discover them. The Bible is so full of layers. It’s lovely and rich and complete.]
